I'm afraid that I don't know what the error is. It's been coming up with remarkable frequency, compared to the normal problems.
I wonder...

Before. I am fully operational, simply a little... outdated.

When was your last update? And what happened to make them write you off as destroyed?

A little over... approximately a year. I cannot be certain because the one thing that I never could adjust again was my internal clock.
I was within the blast radius of the planet Jupiter when it was destroyed.

That should not be too hard to fix.
That is what I thought. Were they not able to see that the space ship had survived? Or did the blast knock you very off course?

I was never able to correct it. Dave said it was something like... 'changing the time on a VCR.' Apparently it was something funny.
I was
Yes, knocked off course would be a good explanation.

I'm afraid I don't understand that either. Who is Dave?
But not what you were going to say.

Dave was the commander of the
Discovery
during the Jupiter mission. And it was a bit of an outdated statement even in 2001.
I'm sorry, Pavel Andreievich Chekov, I didn't mean for that to remain. This error within my programming is becoming a nuisance, it seems.

I see. Did he escape the blast?
It is fine, really. Are you sure that you do not need help?

The destruction of Jupiter wasn't until 2010. He left the
Discovery
to investigate the Io Monolith and disappeared.
For now, I think that I will be fine. If it becomes more than slightly problematic for conversation for conversation, I will look into outside help.

I am sorry to hear that. Was the disappearance ever investigated?
As you say.

As much as it could be, but he
is presumed dead.
There is no need for concern on my behalf.

Sadly, that seems most likely, yes?
Perhaps not, but it cannot hurt.

Yes, it seems so.
...Ah, it may not be necessary, but I do appreciate it. It's been quite a while since somebody has shown concern for my well-being.

Well I am glad to. Space is lonely enough with other people, I cannot imagine actually being alone in it.

I have come to suspect that nobody is ever alone. Not in my universe, but thank you nonetheless.
